Pink Star Sapphire

The appearance of a six-rayed star is known as 'asterism', and is best seen under direct light, especially when tilting and rotating the stone.
This rare effect is produced by inclusions of tiny intersecting needles.
Star sapphire can be clearly distinguished from several other gem types with similar colours because of its superior hardness and durability.
